1. --- IEEE AR EDS - SSCS - Seminario 'Semiconductor Reliability Topics for Advanced CMOS Technologies'

Seminario: Semiconductor Reliability Topics for Advanced CMOS Technologies

Abstract
As we continue the relentless drive towards smaller semiconductor device feature sizes and higher levels of integration at the chip level, it has become increasingly evident that a judicious review and a very complete understanding of the reliability mechanisms that contribute to the degradation of each of the technology elements will be crucial for the successful development of the most advanced leading edge technologies.

The increased device count and process complexity, coupled with ever decreasing margins in voltage, geometry and the incorporation of new material systems like high and low k dielectrics, stress/strain layers, and other limiting factors will be discussed from the reliability perspective. A closer look will be given to Hot Carriers, Bias Temperature Instabilities and statistical variations (process and geometric).

This talk will present the reliability issues driven by the latest trends and state of the art in semiconductor fabrication; it will also present the considerations necessary with a practical approach to the qualification methodology required for advanced CMOS technologies while providing a review of the specifications and implications of the above mentioned reliability mechanisms. The impact of reliability induced parameter degradation and the mitigation of these effects will be studied for practical circuits through the analysis of switching behavior and SRAM applications. The characterization, models and methodology will be put in the required perspective for the successful technology transfer of leading edge technologies to a manufacturing environment.

Esta conferencia se dictará en idioma inglés, y es de acceso libre y gratuito con inscripción previa, según se detalla a continuación.

Conferencia: The Bootstrap Paradigm in Signal Processing

Abstract
The use of more accurate models in signal processing applications such as communications, radar, sonar, biomedical engineering, speech and image processing and machine learning has become a fundamental requirement.
With an improved accuracy the models have become more complex and inferential statistical signal processing required in parameter estimation and signal detection and classification, for example, has become intractable.
The signal processing practitioner requires a simple but accurate method for assessing errors of estimates and answering inferential questions.
Asymptotic approximations are useful only when enough data is available, which is not always possible due to time constraints, the nature of the signal or the measurement setting. In place of the formulae and tables of parametric and non-parametric procedures based on complicated mathematics and asymptotic approximations, tools such as the bootstrap are powerful for solving complex engineering problems.
It is the method of an engineer's choice for solving inferential signal processing problems, such as signal detection, confidence limits estimation and model selection, to mention a few.
In this talk, we first give a brief overview of the the basic principle underlying the bootstrap methodology. We then discuss bootstrap techniques for independent as well as dependent data. Bootstrap methods for signal detection and model selection are presented along with frequency domain bootstrap methods for spectral analysis. Real-data examples are given throughout the talk.

10. --- IEEE AR SPS - Conferencia 'Wavelet tools for scaling processes'

Conferencia: 'Wavelet tools for scaling processes'

Abstract
Thanks to their built-in multiresolution structure, wavelets appear as a natural tool for evidencing scaling properties in signals and processes.

This has led to a flourishing activity over the last 20 years, with methodological advances and applications in many domains.
The purpose of this lecture is twofold.
It is first intended to discuss what is meant by "scaling" and to present the many associated concepts (scale invariance, self-similarity, fractality, multifractality, etc.).
The second goal is, based on a brief overview of wavelets basics, to show why and how wavelet-based tools can be used for assessing scaling behaviours in actual data and estimating the associated parameters.

Speaker: Patrick Flandrin
Patrick Flandrin is a Fellow of the IEEE and IEEE Distinguished Lecturer.
He received the engineer degree from ICPI Lyon, France, in 1978, and the Doct.-Ing. and Docteur d'Etat degrees from INP Grenoble, France, in 1982 and 1987, respectively.
He joined CNRS in 1982, where he is currently a Research Director.
Since 1991, he has been with the Signals, Systems, and Physics Group, Physics Department, Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, France.
Prof. Flandrin has been a major contributor to the theory of (bilinear) Time-Frequency representations and non-stationary signal analysis. He played a major role in the developments of the wavelet theory and the analysis of fractional Brownian motion. Recently, he opened a new research direction studying the Empirical Mode Decomposition and revisiting stationarity with significant contributions on stationarity tests.
Prof. Flandrin is author of the book titled, Time-Frequency/Time-Scale Analysis and has authored more than 250 journal and conference proceeding research articles.
Prof. Flandrin received several research awards including Philip Morris Prize in Mathematics (1991); SPIE Wavelet Pioneer Award (2001); "Prix Michel Monpetit" from the French Academy of Sciences (2001); and Silver Medal from CNRS (2010).
